Why Use Paving Stones for Driveways?

It’s a common misconception that the most cost-effective and long-lasting driveways consist of asphalt and gravel. We know that natural stone, brick, clay, and porcelain pavers are better options. As experienced driveway paver installers, we’ve seen firsthand how high-quality pavers are superior in terms of ease of maintenance, aesthetic appeal, and durability.

Paver driveways offer several advantages, and here’s why:

Aesthetics

Pavers are available in various designs with rich pigmented colors and can be customized to create unique and attractive driveway patterns. This type of surface can enhance the appearance of any outdoor space, particularly driveways, which play an integral part in curb appeal. Our installers specialize in customized pavers for driveways.

Cost vs. Value

An asphalt driveway can crack under heat, and gravel tends to shift and erode over time, so they don’t add value to your property. Our contractors can install a driveway with pavers in Palm Beach County that’s an investment, whether you’re selling your home or aiming to attract more customers to your business.

Durability

Paving stones are stronger and more weather-resistant than both gravel and asphalt. They can withstand many weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and intense sunlight, without deteriorating. Driveway pavers are also less susceptible to cracking and damage from temperature changes.

Maintenance

Our trained installers know that repairing a driveway with brick or natural stone pavers is much easier than repairing a gravel or asphalt driveway. Individual bricks and stones can be replaced or repaired as needed for a targeted fix. No need to spread new material or re-level the surface, which can be more labor-intensive and costly.

Types of Driveway Pavers

Our residential driveway contractors in Palm Beach County can work with many types of paver designs, styles, colors, textures, and finishes. We start with a consultation to learn the material and style you’re looking for so that every installation is a custom project.

Brick, Porcelain, and Concrete for Driveways

Cars belong on materials built for vehicle loads. We install brick paver installation (often in herringbone so the field locks under tire weight), porcelain driveway pavers in 3 cm thickness, and cast concrete pavers. Travertine can appear on some outdoor projects, but we do not recommend marble for driveways — marble stays on patios, walkways, and pool deck pavers only.

Brick Driveway Pavers

A classic and versatile material, brick is a timeless choice for driveways, complementing both casual and formal settings. Driveway paver installers often recommend this type of material because of its ease of maintenance, longevity, beauty, and strength.

Cast Concrete Driveway Pavers

Concrete comes in a variety of colors, designs, and styles. It boasts exceptional durability, ease of installation and replacement (if needed), and offers great economic value in comparison to brick or natural stone. Concrete pavers are a perennial favorite.

It’s easy to overlook how your driveway can affect the appearance and functionality of your home, yet it plays an integral role in your home’s curb appeal. Here are some of the top driveway paver patterns and styles our installers have to offer:

  • Herringbone pattern: By placing rectangular pavers at a 45- or 90-degree angle, you get a stylish zig-zag effect that adds depth and dimension to your driveway. The strength of this pattern comes from its interlocking design, which transfers the weight of vehicles from one paver to another.
  • Running bond pattern: In a running bond layout, our contractors lay pavers parallel to each other on the driveway, with each row shifted halfway over the one below. This creates a streamlined, durable design that’s perfect for driveways.
  • Basketweave pattern: The basketweave pattern uses alternating perpendicular rows of pavers to form a structured, woven appearance that resembles the texture of woven fabric. The interlocking structure spreads pressure evenly across the surface, reducing the chance of shifting or cracking.

How we install a paver driveway

Our installers build a solid 4-inch rock base, then add about 1 inch of screening sand. Pavers go on that bed. Mason-grade joint sand fills the gaps, and edge restraint keeps the field locked. For driveways we often use a herringbone pattern because the pavers interlock and spread vehicle weight. That base is what keeps a driveway from shifting in Palm Beach County heat, rain, and sandy soil. Learn more about why quality paver installation matters.
